What’s special about iBuildBridges?

One of the things that drew me to iBuild Bridges was the vision of collaborating, connecting, and telling stories through music and the arts. I sing to build bridges and for the healing power I know music can give. I strive to use music as a vehicle to promote change.

What are your musical influences?

Nina Simone is one of my favorite people, performers, artists, writers, creators, ever. I admire the way that she carried herself and the intention that she put behind everything she did. And she’s just good. All her music is good, and she’s an incredible musician. Some others would span from Erykah Badu to Joni Mitchell, Aretha Franklin, Cynthia Erivo, Mahalia Jackson, and Marian Anderson. Stevie Wonder too. The list definitely goes on.

What have you learned about bringing people together?

There are so many different types of people. So it’s hard to think of one thing that will speak to everyone. But try to find compassion in everything you do, and walk into every space and greet everyone with love and on a human level.
