Q&A with

‍

What are your musical influences?

My musical influences come from a lot of jazz greats, like John Coltrane and Lester Young, and the really amazing tenor players back in the day. But at the same time, I really love hip hop. Some of my favorite jazz players are Roy Hargrove and Kamasi Washington, who have gone into hip hop genres and played with rappers and stuff like that. That’s stuff that I think is super cool that I would love to do.

‍

What have you learned about bringing people together?

Seeing the positive things in people and really just loving each other more. I see a lot of people focusing on the hate that’s going around and the negativity, instead of thinking about the positive stuff. There are so many people who are willing to lose people they love or that they really care about because of something simple like their political belief, which is just crazy to me. I think if we could make sure that people know that’s not everything, and there are more important things than that, then the world would be more united.
